'People are afraid' - why 'powerhouse' Arsenal are the team to beat.

The evidence is undeniable why Arsenal have become many people's favorites to claim the Premier League during this term.

Examine their results against Newcastle and Crystal Palace versus those same matches last season.

The Gunners have defeated all of them during this campaign, but dropped 10 points across those games as they fell away in the title race last season.

Impenetrable Rearguard

Arsenal's backline resilience is a key reason why they are looking well positioned to finally fulfil their title ambition.

They stand first for unbreached games (6), goals conceded (3), opposition efforts (72), quality opportunities against (19) and anticipated concessions (5.3).

The center-back duo of Gabriel and William Saliba is possibly the strongest in the league, with Arsenal keeping a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Dead-Ball Superiority

Their threat from set-pieces is widely recognized, but opposition teams still struggle to contain the Gunners from these situations.

They have scored 11 times from set-pieces in the league, two more than any other side, with 69% of their goals coming from these situations.

"Arsenal can do a bit of everything now. The whole team has a intimidation presence. People are just afraid of them and it is great to see."

Title Credentials

What is particularly remarkable about Arsenal's start to the campaign is they have also faced Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United at opposition grounds and Manchester City at home - and are still ahead by four points at the top.

While they continue triumphing, their long-standing opponents face difficulties. This marks the first time at this juncture of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The scrutiny was on boss Mikel Arteta at the beginning, having invested around £250m on eight summer signings in pursuit of that elusive first title since 2004.

But the investment has so far yielded results in impressive fashion, with his side one of the most prolific attacks in the league and having the tightest defense, despite multiple injuries.

  • Shutouts in each of their last three Premier League games
  • Over six hours without allowing a goal
  • Only a trio of goals in 12 games across all competitions

Former players and pundits have labeled Arteta's men as a "powerhouse, looking challenging to stop" with the whole club now operating with conviction and purpose.
